The Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro is like a living breathing museum. It's one of the largest underground systems in the world and it has the most ornate stations of all of them. As I whizzed round this Leninist theme park the art deco lights, near constant marble and ears of wheat in bronze started to seem like one giant shrine to the past. Despite this it is astonishingly efficient. No weekend shut downs, no delays, no closed escalators. Guess what, a single journey costs only about 50p. How do they manage that then?!! |
